Quinine is used in photochemistry as a common fluorescence standard and as a resolving agent for chiral acids. It is also useful for treating falciparum malaria, lupus, arthritis and vivax malaria. It acts as a flavor component in tonic water and bitter lemon. It is utilized as the chiral moiety for the ligands used in sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation. Furthermore, it catalyzes the kinetic resolution of furanones.

La quinine est utilisée en photochimie comme étalon de fluorescence commun et comme agent de résolution pour les acides chiraux. Elle est également utile pour traiter le paludisme à falciparum, le lupus, l’arthrite et le paludisme à vivax. Elle agit comme un composant aromatique dans l’eau tonique et le citron amer. Elle est utilisée comme fraction chirale pour les ligands utilisés dans la dihydroxylation asymétrique et nette. De plus, elle catalyse la résolution cinétique des furanones.
Solubilité
Soluble dans l’alcool, le chloroforme et l’éther diéthylique. Légèrement soluble dans l’eau et le glycérol.
