N-Methyl-D-glucamine is used in conjunction with iodinated organic compounds in contrast media viz. diatrizoate meglumine and iodipamide meglumine. It is useful in ion-exchange resins to chelate boron ions selectively. It is also used as an excipient in pharmaceuticals, in cosmetics and X-ray contrast media. It is also employed in the synthesis of surface active agents, pharmaceuticals and dyes.

Applications
La N-méthyl-D-glucamine est utilisée en association avec des composés organiques iodés dans des milieux de contraste, à savoir la mégluminine de diatrizoate et la mégluminine d’iodipamide. Il est utile dans les résines échangeuses d’ions pour chélater les ions bore de manière sélective. Il est également utilisé comme excipient dans les produits pharmaceutiques et cosmétiques et dans les milieux de contraste à rayons X. Il est également utilisé dans la synthèse d’agents actifs de surface, de produits pharmaceutiques et de colorants.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’eau.

Remarques
Sensible à l’air et hygroscopique. Incompatible avec les agents oxydants forts.
