An aminoglycoside antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesisHygromycin B is used for the selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells that contains the hygromycin resistance gene. This gene is frequently used as a selectable marker in research on plants. It stabilizes the transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA)-ribosomal acceptor site, thereby inhibiting translocation. In addition to this, it serves as an aminoglycosidic antibiotic which inhibits protein synthesis.

Applications
Antibiotique aminoglycoside qui tue les bactéries en inhibant la synthèse des protéines L’hygromycine B est utilisée pour la sélection et le maintien de cellules procaryotes et eucaryotes contenant le gène de résistance à l’hygromycine. Ce gène est fréquemment utilisé comme marqueur sélectionnable dans la recherche sur les plantes. Il stabilise le site de transfert acide ribonucléique(ARNt)-accepteur ribosomique, inhibant ainsi la translocation. En outre, il sert d’antibiotique aminoglycosidique qui inhibe la synthèse de protéines.

Solubilité
Miscible avec de l’eau, du méthanol, de la solution tampon et de l’éthanol. Immiscible avec des solvants moins polaires.
