General Description
• Doxycycline hydrochloride is a compound that shows antibacterial and antimicrobial activities against several species, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Plasmodium falciparum, and Escherichia coli. It is also a bacteriostatic
• It can block the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis
Application
• It is used to eliminate Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in rodent reservoirs and eliminate Ixodes scapularis ticks
• Doxycycline hydrochloride is also considered to be a broad-spectrum inhibitor used to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), such as type 1 collagenase, in wound healing and tissue remodeling studies. Due to this activity, it can inhibit angiogenesis and reduce lung metastases
